Every summer for the last 20 years, Seattle’s Capitol Hill Block Party takes over a multi-block section of the Capitol Hill neighborhood between Pike and Pine streets. The festival continues to bring with it talented musical acts, both local and from around the world, with a three-day party like none other. And while the festival lineup is a closely guarded secret until its release date, we were able to catch up with Evan Johnson, lead talent buyer and booker for CHBP for a playlist of some of his favorites tunes. With hits from Smokey Brights, Lizzo, Wolf Parade and Jai Wolf, Evan’s playlist is a good retrospective on last year’s festival and may in fact give a few hint of the 2018 lineup—which will be initially announced this March.

Indian Summer – Jai Wolf

“Jai Wolf’s 2017 set was one of the best we saw at CHBP last year. He is a perfect example of recent trends in electronic music but has managed to create his own unique sound and stay true to his artistic identity. I’m sure he will have a big 2018 as well!”

Come To Terms – Smokey Brights

“CHBP prides itself on featuring not only larger, national touring acts but also the great local talent we have in Seattle! This is the single off the upcoming project from Smokey Brights. It makes me want to groove in the sunshine with a PBR in hand.”

Good As Hell – Lizzo

“Lizzo’s set was my favorite of last year. Not only are we from the same home state but she is incredibly infectious and relatable. She has a powerful voice, badass dance moves and is not afraid to be 100% herself at all times.”

Check out the rest of Evan’s favorites below, stay tuned in March for the full lineup and follow us on Spotify for even more tasty jams.
